The latest home and garden trend is about making the most of the traditional back garden ‘shed’. Many homeowners use their backyard sheds as extensions of their garage, where they stash all the lawn and garden items they can’t fit anywhere else. But by cleverly transforming the area, you can add value and quirkiness to your home.
One idea that is becoming increasingly popular are DIY bar sheds – sheds are being converted so that homeowners can have their very own bar and socialising space. Try adding some new doors, a bar, seating, a little porch area and some fun pub games and hey presto you have your own DIY bar shed. You could also add a TV, some cosy couches and indoor heating, and you might not want to leave it all year round!
The other trend that seems to be here to stay is the ‘She-Shed’. For decades, the shed has been a traditionally male domain, but women around the country are now creating some space for themselves to escape from the stresses of daily reality, with a backyard hideout all to themself. Whether it is for gardening, crafting or just somewhere to curl up with a good book, ‘She-Sheds’ are taking over from ‘Man Caves’. Giving your shed a fresh coat of paint in a calming color like light blue, or a feminine shade of pink, will instantly give it new life. Next, de-clutter all those tools that are never really used, and use the space as your perfect escape from reality. Invite your girlfriends over and kick back with a glass of wine, or just enjoy the peace and quiet at the end of your garden.
Any improvement or addition to living space of your home could increase it’s appeal and value to potential buyers.
